China and Iran are strongly complementary on trade and share huge potential in bilateral cooperation, said Chu Shijia, vice-president and secretary-general of the China Import and Export Fair, and director-general of China Foreign Trade Centre.
Chu made the remarks during his meeting with Hosseinali Darvishi Motevalli, the consul-general of Iran in Guangzhou, during the ongoing Canton Fair, on Tuesday.
China and Iran are friends sharing long-term relationships, and the two countries have promised great room for bilateral trade cooperation, Chu said.
As a well-known trade expo in China, Canton Fair is an exhibition with the longest history, the largest scale, the richest varieties of commodities that have attracted the largest number of buyers from a wide range of countries and regions, Chu said.
He added that the fair is also a comprehensive international trade platform with wide recognition in the international business community.
Iran is one of the important sources of buyers attending the CIEF, and Iranian businesses are regular clients of the fair, Chu said.
He noted that as the two countries have inked an agreement to enhance strategic bilateral cooperation for the next 25 years, Canton Fair should grasp this opportunity and bring more benefits to businesses of China and Iran.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iran, and Chu called for the two countries to take the opportunity of the upcoming 130th Canton Fair in October to deepen exchanges and enhance cooperation, and thus to contribute to promoting the development of bilateral trade.
China is an important cooperation partner of Iran. With the signing of the China-Iran 25-year comprehensive cooperation agreement, the two countries are expected to push their trade cooperation to new heights, Motevalli said.
He said that as the largest exhibition in the world, Canton Fair is a key indicator reflecting the development of the global economy, and its online exhibitions over the two years are the most successful in the world.
The fair is a major platform and an important bridge for promoting trade cooperation between China and Iran, Motevalli said.
The consulate general of Iran will cooperate with the China Foreign Trade Centre to encourage more Iranian buyers and businesses to take part in the fair.
Motevalli said he hopes to promote cooperation between the CFTC and the National Exhibition and Convention Center of Iran for win-win development of the exhibition industry on both sides.
