In 2020, China is winning the battle against poverty. The 127th Canton Fair, which is taking place right now online, has helped to boost market confidence.

The displays by companies from poor areas is a highlight of the fair, including tea oil and handmade crafts produced in Anhui province, agricultural products from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and medicine and textiles from Sichuan province.

Since 2017, the fair has provided special booths for the exhibitors from poverty-stricken areas.

This year, around 1,000 foreign trade companies from the areas are displaying their products online, seeking opportunities in the overseas market.

The 127th Canton Fair is fully open to businesses from poverty-stricken areas. It removes the limitations on exhibitor numbers and exhibition thresholds.

As a result, the number of exhibitors from such areas at the ongoing fair has increased 62.3 percent compared with the previous session.

Focusing on offering targeted support and upgrading services for exhibitors from poor areas, the fair is paying more attention to providing them with ways to make money rather than just giving them money.

With the support of the poverty alleviation measures launched by the fair, those enterprises are gaining more confidence in keeping up with the current fashion and growing with more capacity to expand their businesses.

Through the Canton Fair, businesses from the remote areas without convenient transportation, sound infrastructure or diverse economic models are embracing the opportunity to showcase themselves to the world.
