CFTC Working Group Promotes Canton Fair in Myanmar

From September 26-27, the working group led by Xu Bing, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre, held Canton Fair promotion conference in Yangon, Myanmar, met with Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization,Myanmar International Trade Center and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (UMFCCI). The group held a panel discussion, signed the Global Partnership Agreement with the UMFCCI, introduced the latest development of Canton Fair to the local business community and mobilized local enterprises to participate in Canton Fair actively. 

On September 26th, the working group held a Canton Fair promotion conference in Yangon. Mr. Tan Shufu, Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, and Mr. ZAW MIN WIN, President of the UMFCCI attended the conference and delivered speeches. More than 20 people in charge of associations on textiles & garments, agricultural products, handicraft products, plastic cements, trade service and other related industries and representatives of enterprises attended the conference.



Canton Fair Panel discussion in Yangon

At the panel discussion, Xu Bing introduced the new features and measures taken at Canton Fair, including the continuous innovation and reform as well as the promotion of high-quality development. He said that Canton Fair can’t develop without the support and participation of the global industrial and commercial organizations and entrepreneurs. Currently, Canton Fair has been facilitating the Global Partnership Program actively. It has established and deepened partnerships with the global industrial and commercial organizations. Through sharing resources with each other, the enterprises from home and abroad can be offered more high-quality, efficient and targeted trade services, thus achieving mutual benefits and win-win results. Signing the Global Partnership Agreement is a new starting point of the bilateral cooperation, which will enrich the contents, upgrade the level of cooperation and facilitate more enterprises to participate in Canton Fair, thus promoting the cooperation between the Chinese and Burmese companies and making positive contributions to the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Tan Shufu said that the Burmese markets have become increasingly open in recent years. With the continuous promotion of “Belt and Road” Initiative and the construction of China-Myanmar economic corridor, the bilateral economic and trade cooperation has witnessed huge potentials. Canton Fair is the exhibition with the longest history, largest scale and the best transaction effectiveness in China. He hopes that more Burmese enterprises can exhibit and purchase products at Canton Fair so as to make positive contributions in advancing the bilateral economic and trade development.

Mr. ZAW MIN WIN said that Myanmar and China are linked by mountains and rivers and there are affinities between two peoples and cultures. With the close economic and trade cooperation, the two countries have witnessed a good momentum for the development of cooperation in recent years. Canton Fair is a high-quality platform for boosting the exchanges and cooperations between Chinese and Burmese companies and is a significant channel for Burmese companies to purchase Chinese products and explore Chinese markets. He hopes that more companies can tap business opportunities through Canton Fair in the future and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results. Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry would like to keep in contact with China Foreign Trade Centre, actively organize delegations to attend the Fair and discuss the possibility of holding high-level forums with the Centre during the exhibition.

At the panel discussion, the working group also listened to suggestions and advice given by attendees on VIP services, forum events, information exchanges, the protection of IPR and many other topics.

After the discussion, Xu Bing, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre and Mr. Aye Tun, Vice President of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry signed the Global Partnership Agreement on behalf of their respective party. It is the first cooperation agreement signed with Myanmar Industrial and Commercial organization. Both parties promised to conduct practical cooperation in Canton Fair promotion, information exchanges, mutual visits and services for attendees and provide more convenient and efficient services for member enterprises. Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry is a state-level commercial organization with a history of about one hundred years. It has 76 industrial and regional associations and possesses over 20,000 member companies, enjoying a prominent status in the local industrial and commercial industry.



Signing the Global Partnership Agreement

The working group visited Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization and Myanmar International Trade Center, introduced the basic situations of Canton Fair, China Foreign Trade Centre and exhibitions organized by the Centre. Besides, the working group discussed that the two parties can make use of the respective advantages of their platforms to offer more services to enterprises of both countries when boosting the economic and trade cooperation.



Visiting Myanmar International Trade Center

The working group also visited Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Embassy of China in Myanmar. Both parties communicated with each other on expanding Canton Fair promotion, strengthening the cooperation with the local trade promotion agencies and participating in the International Pavilion.
