CFTC Working Group Promotes Canton Fair and Conducts Survey on Exhibition Industry in the Philippines

From September 23 to 25, Xu Bing, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre, led a working group to carry out Canton Fair promotion and survey in Manila, the Philippines. The group met with Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines and Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry, held a promotion conference, signed the Global Cooperative Agreement with Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, publicized the latest developments of Canton Fair to the local business community and visited the SMX Convention Center in Manila and the 20th NADTI Trade Exhibit.

On September 24th, the 126th Canton Fair Promotion Conference was successfully held. Mr. Angelo B. Taningco, Assistant Secretary of Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, Jiang Jianjun, Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and Dr. Francis Chua, CHAIRMAN EMERITUS of Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry attended the conference and delivered speeches. Over 80 buyers from local government departments, industrial and commercial organizations attended the conference. The Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported on the conference.


Canton Fair promotion conference in Manila

Angelo, Assistant Secretary of Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, said that Canton Fair is a world-renowned trade fair which enjoys a high reputation in the Philippines. The Department would like to make concerted efforts with China Foreign Trade Centre to jointly promote local enterprises to participate in Canton Fair, thus upgrading the level of the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

At the promotion conference, Xu Bing, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre, delivered the keynote speech. He said that Canton Fair persists in serving the national development strategies and facilitate “Belt and Road” Initiative actively. Canton Fair emphasizes the feature of comprehensiveness, giving buyers numerous choices. Being increasingly internationalized, it is an international trade platform for mutual benefits and win-win results. Canton Fair facilitates digitalization positively, building itself into an all-weather service platform for foreign trade. In the new era, innovation and reform have been conducted continuously and high-quality development has been promoted to generate boundless opportunities for the world enterprises participating in Canton Fair. He hopes that enterprises in the Philippines can seize the new opportunities offered by the high-quality Canton Fair and actively participate in it, thus boosting the stable development of the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Jiang Jianjun, Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, pointed out that the bilateral economic and trade cooperative relations have become closer with the increasingly frequent exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries in recent years. Under the support of Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines and Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry, enterprises in the Philippines have become more and more active in participating in Canton Fair. He hopes that more local enterprises can exhibit and purchase products at Canton Fair in the future so as to promote the continuous growth of the bilateral trade.

Both parties promised to conduct practical cooperation in promotion, information exchanges, mutual visits and services for attendees, making great efforts to give more conveniences to the member companies, ensure a more secure transaction and a more profitable return. Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a state-level commercial organization with the longest history in the Philippines. It possesses tens of thousands of member companies and enjoys a prominent status in the local industrial and business industry.


Signing the Global Cooperative Agreement

The working group also visited the SMX Convention Center in Manila and conducted survey on the 20th NADTI Trade Exhibit. The group introduced the basic situations of Canton Fair, China Foreign Trade Centre and exhibitions organized by the Centre. The two parties had in-depth exchanges on the development trend of the local exhibition industry, venue operation and management, digital application and service outsourcing.

The working group visited Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Embassy of China in the Philippines and listened to suggestions and advice on expanding Canton Fair promotion, strengthening the protection of IPR and organizing exhibitions overseas.
