Canton Fair contributes to targeted poverty reduction with pragmatic measures

At the opening press conference of the 124th Canton Fair on October 14, Xu Bing, the spokesman for Canton Fair and Deputy Director General of the China Foreign Trade Centre, introduced the Canton Fair's efforts to help fight poverty in a targeted manner.

Xu Bing said that in order to implement the strategic plan of the Central Committee and the State Council on poverty alleviation and fight against poverty through commerce, according to the overall plan of the Ministry of Commerce, Canton Fair has taken measures to support international trade development in poverty-stricken areas since the 122nd session, cancel booth fee for exhibitors from poor areas and set up the Traditional Chinese Specialties section.

Xu Bing said that the Ministry of Commerce, together with the local commercial authorities, will actively organize pre-show training, strengthen on-site passenger flow with assistance, provide free translation services for exhibitors from poor areas, and be dedicated to help enterprises expand international markets and widen the scale of exports. Since the establishment of Traditional Chinese Specialties section, the exhibition has achieved fruitful development, with the total turnover of exhibitors in poverty-stricken areas reaching 4 billion yuan in the past two years. Some enterprises achieved breakthroughs in export through Canton Fair. According to the questionnaire, nearly 60% of the exhibitors are satisfied with the effect of the exhibition, and 96% of the enterprises hope to continue to participate in the exhibition.

It is reported that the 124th Canton Fair will continue to support the development of foreign trade in poverty-stricken areas. Traditional Chinese Specialties section will be set up in Hall 6.0, Phase 3. Exhibitors in the exhibition area will be exempted from booth fee. There are 180 booths with 159 enterprises from 22 trading delegations participating in this section. 13 product zones will be set up according to product category, of which the three largest were food, men's and women's clothing and medical and health products. At the same time, free translation services will be provided to enterprises in need, pre-show training and guidance be strengthened, to boost Canton Fair’s role on foreign trade and economic development in poverty-stricken areas, so as to make due contributions to poverty alleviation in accordance with the central assignment.
