At the opening press conference of the 124th Canton Fair on October 14, Xu Bing, spokesman for the Fair and Deputy Director General of the China Foreign Trade Centre, introduced the impact of Sino-US trade frictions on attendance of buyers from U.S..

Xu Bing said that the United States is the second largest buyer origin of the Canton Fair, with more than 10,000 attendees per session in recent years. The 123rd Canton Fair was attended by 11929 US buyers, an increase of 7.85% compared with the same period of last year.

At present, Sino-US trade frictions have a negative impact on bilateral economic and trade relationship, and it has brought uncertainty to the normal economic and trade cooperation and exchanges between enterprises of the two countries. According to our survey, most U.S. buyers said they would continue to attend and source, but there are also some business organizations worried that U.S. trade policy may have an effect on the enthusiasm of buyers.

Xu Bing said that facing with escalating trade frictions, the majority of exhibitors continue to optimize the structure of exhibited goods, develop brands, and focus on independent intellectual property rights, new technologies and new products in the exhibition. At the same time, China Foreign Trade Centre has been dedicated to attract global buyers and invite a wide range of high-quality buyers from all over the world, including the United States, to attend the fair, maintain the diversity of buyer origin, and achieve the stability of buyer attendance and export transactions at the 124th Canton Fair.
