CFTC Working Group Promotes Canton Fair in Kenya

From Sept 15-17, China Foreign Trade Centre working group promoted Canton Fair in Nairobi Kenya through organizing promotion conference, meeting with governmental departments, commercial and industrial organizations and loyal Canton Fair buyers, and signing Global Cooperative Agreement.


Canton Fair promotion conference in Nairobi

At the promotion conference in Nairobi, Wen Zhongliang, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre introduced the highlights of Canton Fair, the relevant situations about the 126th session, the product category sourced by Kenyan buyers at Canton Fair and the scale of the related exhibiting companies. Moreover, he invited Kenyan buyers to exhibit their products and source at Canton Fair. Miss. Liu Yue, the Third Secretary of Economic and Commercial Councilor’s Office, the Embassy of the P.R China in Kenya, introduced the history and scale of Canton Fair and the turnover at the Fair in his speech. In the meantime, he promoted people in Kenyan commercial industry to find business opportunities in China by taking full advantage of this platform. At the conference, Mr. Gilbert Langat, C.E.O of Shippers Council of Eastern Africa said that Kenyan businessmen can make the acquaintance of the outstanding Chinese enterprises and attracted them to enter Kenyan markets, thus becoming the partners enjoying mutual benefits and win-win cooperation. Mr. Geoffrey Kimani, Vice Chairman of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nairobi Chapter, said that Canton Fair is not only the channel for Kenya to export goods to China but also the platform for introducing Chinese high-tech products. Nearly 150 members from the main commercial associations in Kenya business circle attended the promotion conference. After the conference, the working group signed Canton Fair Global Cooperative Agreement with China Information and Culture Centre (Kenya), the organizer of the conference.

The working group visited Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in East Africa. Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency assists Kenyan government in promoting balanced development of import and export trade. Ms. Celestine Rono, the person in charge of this agency, said that Kenya-China bilateral trade has enjoyed a rapid growth. Through Canton Fair, the competitive products of Kenya can be exported to China, leading to the co-sharing of Chinese markets and fruits brought by trade globalization. Mr. George Kiondo, Deputy CEO of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, introduced the achievements made in the bilateral economic and trade cooperation and the development prospects. He considers that the Kenyan traditional products can be exposed to the global buyers through Canton Fair and the Fair is a high-quality channel for Kenyan exporters to sell products abroad. Mr. Han Jun, from Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in East Africa, has attended the Fair since 1980s. He said that the role played by Canton Fair on China’s foreign trade is irreplaceable. It is the window and epitome of the Chinese markets and the safe and high-efficient way connecting the bilateral trade.


The working group met with CHIRAG construction company

The working group also met with CHIRAG construction company, the old Canton Fair buyer and visited timber processing plant. This company attended Canton Fair for 7 times, mainly sourcing machinery and building materials. Mr. Wen Zhongliang exchanged with Mr. Suresh Fatania, the person in charge of this company about attending frequency, sourcing proportion between new products and traditional products and products innovation. Mr. Suresh Fatania gave credit for the organizing level and quality of exhibiting companies and products. In the meantime, he advised that smaller orders should be attached more importance to at Canton Fair so as to meet the multi-level needs of buyers.
