Canton Fair Promotes Comprehensive Green Development

At the Press Conference for the opening of the 123rd session of Canton Fair held on the Apr 14th, Mr. Xu Bing, spokesperson of the Canton Fair, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre, introduced the upgrading of the green development at the 123rd Canton Fair.

Xu said that the report at the 19th CPC Congress mentioned that building ecological civilization is a Thousand Year Plan to sustain the development of the Chinese nation. Canton Fair has long been an important player, contributor as well as leader in constructing the exhibition eco-civilization. We, at the Canton Fair, have first implemented the Canton Fair Green Development Plan since the 115th Session to advance comprehensive green development. With the concerted efforts of all parties, the 120th Canton Fair successfully realized the expected goal of achieving 100% green booth, which to a large extent solves problems of excessive energy consumption as well as massive emission of wastes, pollution and poisonous gases, and creates a vicious circle where the economy growth goes hand in hand with environmental protection.

Xu introduced that we are pressing ahead the Canton Fair Green Development Plan 2.0. Through source control, process supervision and end governance, we endeavor to raise the popularity of professional exhibition materials, improve the overall level of design and exhibition, strengthen the disposal of solid waste so as to create green exhibition standard and enhance the Canton Fair green development quality in a comprehensive manner.  

Promote comprehensive green development. We are actively coordinating the resources of government departments, complex owners, organizers, exhibitors, buyers, construction units and industrial associations. On top of that, we are promoting green exhibitions, green conferences, green transportation and green catering as well as providing green service guide. By doing so, we aim to promote interconnected development across all industry chains, lead the new state of green exhibition and conduct the national strategy of green development together.

Upgrade green exhibition equipment. We will prepare a list of recommended green exhibition equipment to fully promote the use of professional materials, striving to make professional materials the mainstream material for green booth construction in 2-3 years and enhance the professional level of green booths. In addition, we will build a supply-demand matchmaking platform in order to save construction costs and cut the emissions of solid waste.

Enhance exhibition effect. Committed to strengthening the notion of green design, we promote the Canton Fair Green Booth Award and hold the award ceremony to set up models and lead the transformation in the mindset of exhibiting enterprises and construction companies from “commodity displaying” to “brand building” while enhancing the overall exhibition level of Canton Fair.

Upgrade the control of exhibition solid waste. We continue to benchmark against global first-class exhibitions, strengthen the whole process control and formulate measures of solid waste sorting and disposal, striving to achieve 100% recovery of domestic garbage, custom-built booths garbage, and classify solid waste, and to reach the international top-notched standard in 2-3 years. 

Upgrade industry standard. To refine the green booth standards, we solidly press ahead the establishment of national standard by preparing the Green Booth Assessment Guideline. Above that, we keep exploring the feasibility of establishing two international standards for green expo and exhibition safety management, seizing strategic highlands, so as to expand the benchmark role as well as brand image of the Canton Fair and enhance its global influence.
