The China Import and Export Fair, also known as Canton Fair, has helped enterprises enhance their risk-resistance, as the foreign trade sector remains lackluster amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the trade war launched against China by the United States.

Tongyuan Electronics, a quartz clock manufacturer based in Zhangzhou, Fujian province, was one of the first companies affected. But it has found its way out with the help of Canton Fair.

The company used to export its products mainly to the US and Japan. But its US exports have been cut by 30 percent so far this year, said Xia Lingyan, a business manager of Tongyuan Electronics.

To handle this situation, the company has focused on developing products for the Japanese market while working on new technologies.

Xia said the company is relieved that the outbreak in China has been effectively prevented and controlled. The country’s economy is recovering, which has brought the company new opportunities.

“At the last Canton Fair (held on June 15-24), we found that there were a sizable number of domestic companies interested in our products. Therefore, Tongyuan Electronics will pay more attention to expanding domestic markets and building its brand awareness,” Xia added.

Shenzhen-based Huanan Xinhai Drive Machine, a conveyor belt supplier, is expected to realize a growth in its exports this year. This is thanks to a partnership network that it has established over previous Canton Fairs, according to Bian Zhenxi, manager of foreign trade at the company.

“Since it has taken part in the Canton Fair for years, the company has accumulated a large number of regular customers and has established long-term partnerships with many agents in multiple markets. The agents have professional and veteran sales teams. So, we have strong competitiveness in terms of the export business,” Bian added.
