Fair offers 24-hour livestreams to attract international buyers

Facing a depressed market caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, China's mechanical and electronic product manufacturers have ramped up efforts to stay in business and stabilize foreign trade.

Data from the General Administration of Customs show exports of electromechanical products fell by 7.1 percent year-on-year in the first five months of 2020 and imports decreased by 4.1 percent.

At the beginning of May, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products conducted a survey on nearly1,000 enterprises participating in the 127th China Import and Export Fair, also known as Canton Fair.

Of the respondents, 77.9 percent saw a significant decline in their orders. Delivery delay and blocked logistics became common difficulties for foreign trade companies.

At the ongoing Canton Fair, manufacturers of electromechanical products are displaying thousands of quality products and offering 24-hour livestreamingto expand the market and earn more business. Statistics from June 15-17 showed that commodities such as auto parts and home appliances brought considerable profits for exhibitors.

Exports of key electromechanical products have begun to rebound as the virus spread has been mitigated in China, but the annual demand is still not positive, according to the chamber of commerce.

China's exports of laptops, integrated circuits and home appliances have recovered rapidly, resulting from the resumption of work and increased demand for digital office supplies, the organization added. The global market for commodities with high trade volume such as cars and mobile phonesremained sluggish.

While the virus dealt a blow to China's electromechanical field, businesses in the sector have resumed production, said the chamber of commerce. With the stable supply chain and strong supportive policies, electromechanical companies will continue their efforts to pursue high-quality development, the chamber added.
