“Over the past twenty years, through Canton Fair, we have witnessed a sound quality improvement in China’s export products,” said Du Jiabin, President of SGS China.

Witnessing a better quality of “Made in China”

With a history of 140 years, SGS is a world leading inspection and certification company. As SGS has entered China for 27 years, Du has also known Canton Fair for 20 years. He is a witness of the improving quality of the products made in China.

“We tell companies the European and American standards so that they give more weight to product quality and safety. Meanwhile this also helps lifting the production standards of the locally sold products. ”

Canton Fair: an international trade platform to buy from and sell to the globe

Du regarded Canton Fair as an open international trade platform to buy from and sell to the globe.

“I have worked for SGS for almost 20 years. In my first year, I had an important task. That was to visit Canton Fair, from which I learned about the export demand in China. Once there is any update in the key standards in any countries and regions, we will timely inform the companies through Canton Fair.”

Over the past 20 years, Du has realized that while Chinese products are trying to approach the international standard, the world is also paying more attention to the Chinese standard.

“In the past, we tested export products based on the European, American and Japanese standard. In the recent decade, however, overseas brands intending to enter China should be inspected according to the Chinese Standard (GB). ”

The “Belt and Road Initiative” facilitates export products to upgrade

“In recent years, with the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, the trend of export has shifted from labor-intensive consumer products to technology-based industrial or equipment manufacturing, including China’s power project and high speed rail project,” said Du.

According to the statistics of the 123 rd session of Canton Fair, the export transaction volume with countries along the Belt and Road reached 9.67 billion USD, accounting for 32.2% of the 123 rd session’s total transaction volume.

He was confident in the competitiveness of Chinese products. “China’s high speed train is a fantastic name card of “Made in China” and is now extending into Europe. There can be pains in the upgrade of export products, but this is what we must go through in order to help Chinese products grow in the future.”
