The 2021 Canton Fair Fashion Week (Spring) was held at the Westin Pazhou in Guangzhou during the 129th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) on April 16th, featuring domestic brands and products that incorporate Chinese traditional style and culture, a trend known as guochao.

Well-known Guangdong designer Qu Tingnan, also known as Gary Wat, presented his creations made of gambiered Canton gauze at the show. Hailed as a "national treasure" kind of fabric, the gambiered Canton gauze is first dyed with the extract from the dye yam, a plant unique to Guangdong, and then processed with mud rich in minerals dug out from riverbeds. Finally the fabric is dried in the sun.

Three other local designers Tang Zhiru, Fang Huijuan and Sun Enle as well as three leather brands based in Guangzhou’s Huadu District also joined the fashion show to display their latest creations and products.

During the show, audiences also got a sneak preview of the upcoming events highlighting cuisines, cultures and products from Latin American countries which will be seen at the 130th Canton Fair in October.

The fashion week was co-hosted by both China Foreign Trade Centre and Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau, and organized by Canton Fair Product Design & Trade Promotion Centre.
