The 129th Canton Fair has established a new section dedicated to rural revitalization and promoting the development of areas lifted out of poverty.
Langfang Wansen, a handicraft manufacturer in Hebei province, has been participating in the Canton Fair since 2002.
According to Jin Weiguo, chairman of the company, 70-80 percent of its exports came from the deals signed at the fair.
Since 2018, Wansen has been training poor families, providing them with home-based jobs. The company sends raw materials to their door, collects finished products and pays them salaries on a weekly basis. The cooperation model has helped the workers out of poverty and improved their livelihoods.
The Canton Fair has played a key role in promoting the export of products from poverty-stricken areas in China, officials said.
With the launch of the 122nd session, the fair has provided a total of 8,105 free booths for 6,084 enterprises from poverty-stricken areas. Organizers have reduced booth fees by 86.7 million yuan ($13.3 million) and promoted exports worth over $1.7 billion for them.
Guizhou Lingxiang, a high-tech manufacturing company, began to participate in the Canton Fair in the autumn of 2018. This year, it has become an exhibitor in the rural revitalization section.
Zhou Guihong, chairman of the company, said the Canton Fair has helped enterprises connect with the international market and created an industrial chain that empowers the workforces of poor households.
Data show 1,160 enterprises from 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities participate in the rural revitalization section of the Canton Fair. Organizers have provided them with 1,463 free booths and 49 exhibition areas, involving 16 categories of commodities.
