The 133rd Canton Fair Promotes Overall High-Quality Development

At the press briefing of the 133rd Canton Fair on April 13, Mr. Xu Bing, Spokesperson of the Canton Fair, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre, introduced the innovation in preparations and overall high-quality development.
According to Xu, for the 133rd session, onsite exhibition will be fully resumed and held in 3 phases from April 15 to May 5. Meanwhile, online exhibition will continue regular operation all-year-round. As the first session to resume onsite exhibition in the first year to fully implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and in the new phase of COVID-19 prevention and control, the 133rd session of the Canton Fair is of great significance. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to this session. After comprehensive organization of Ministry of Commerce, Guangdong Provinceand local commerce departments, the global business community and whole society are full of anticipation towards the Fair.
Xu stated that guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era, the 133rd Canton Fair willimplement the spirit of the 20thCPC Congress and Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter to the 130th CantonFair. Following the instructions of Central Economic Work Conference and National Commerce Work Conference, the Canton Fair will prioritize stability, pursue progress while maintaining stability and apply the new development concept, so as to organize an efficient, safe, green Canton Fair, and a session of digitalization and integrity, to stabilize the scale and optimize the structure of foreign trade, and to serve high-quality opening up and the new development paradigm in the new development stage.
Having achieved breakthroughs in four aspects, namely larger exhibition scale, optimized product variety, further online offline integration and improved quality, the 133rd Canton Fair has promoted high-quality development comprehensively, Xu said.
Larger exhibition scale
The exhibition scale of the 133rd Canton Fair is the largest in its history, with both exhibition area and the number of exhibitors reaching a record high. The total exhibition area has expanded from 1.18 million to 1.5 million square meters; the number of booths has risen from 60,000 to nearly 70,000. At the same time, the number of exhibitors in the physical exhibition has increased from 25,000 to 34,933; new exhibitors have exceeded 9,000; online exhibitors have reached over 39,281.
Optimized exhibition structure
New exhibition sections and new zones have been added. Exhibition sections such as Industrial Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing, New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicles, and Maternal, Baby and Children Products have been set up, as well as zones including Smart Life, Silver Economy and Detection Reagent and Protective Equipment. Under 16 product categories, the number of exhibition sections and zones hasrisen to 54 and 159 respectively. Meanwhile, some exhibition zones have been upgraded and reorganized. Specifically, section of Large Machinery and Equipment has been renamed Processing Machinery Equipment; section of General Machinery, Small Processing Machinery and Industrial Accessories has been renamed as General Machinery and Mechanical Basic Parts.
Higher quality of exhibitors
Of all the exhibitors, production enterprises and private enterprises play a dominant role, accounting for 50.57% and 90.1% respectively. The number of high-quality and featured enterprises hits a new record, including around 5,700 of leading companies of various sectors, and companies titled "little giants" that specializein their niche sectors, manufacturing single champions, national high-tech enterprise, or national enterprise technical center. Also, the quality of products has been further improved. More than 3 million products have been uploaded in the online platform, among them are nearly 800,000 new products and 500,000 green and low-carbon ones.
Improved integration of import and export
The International Pavilion is set in all 3 phases for the first time, with its scale expanded to 30,000 square meters, up by 50% over pre-pandemic sessions. 508 enterprises from 40 countries and regions will exhibit in 12 zones, among which those from Belt & Roadcountries and regions take up 73%. Six national and regional delegations from Turkey, South Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macao will participate. China’s national import promotion demonstration zones, namely, Nansha of Guangzhou, Huangpu of Guangzhou, Ouhai of Wenzhou, Beihai of Guangxi, and Qisumu of Inner Mongolia are introduced to advance practical cooperation withmultiple countries and regions, and further liberalize and facilitate international trade by promoting their business environment and innovations.
