The China Import and Export Fair is playing an important role in the development of Fujian's foreign trade.

For many companies from the East China province, the fair is not only a barometer of the country’s foreign trade, but also an incubator that creates stages for enterprises to showcase their brands, exchange information and discuss industrial development trends.

Numerous foreign trade businesses from Fujian have taken opportunities at the fair and grown stronger. Among them is a tourism and trade industry company, Fujian Lvmao Industrial.

The company was close to closing down in the 1990s. Thanks to the fair, it reversed the situation and is increasing exports. It has overseas orders worth nearly $200 million annually.

At first, it booked just half a booth at the fair but now it has 15 stands. Persevering with the fair and actively obtaining clients have been key to the company turning itself around and growing stronger, a spokesman said.

Fashion Flying Group, an outdoor garments maker from Fujian, has attended the fair since 2003. Its products have been exported to 61 countries and regions.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was then London’s mayor, once wore a volunteer garment developed by the company for the 2012 London Games. It has also built production centers in countries such as Vietnam, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Bangladesh.

The company currently has more than 17,200 workers globally and can produce 10 million pieces of clothing annually.

Fujian values the participation of local companies to the fair. The provincial trade delegation has been commended by the event’s organizers for consecutive years.

The trade group has detailed service plans for companies, pays close attention to the fair’s developments, holds training activities to inform companies of the newest foreign trade policies and guides them to prepare for the fair.

It also helps companies protect intellectual property and guarantees network safety and a timely response to their questions and demands.

The group encourages companies to display high-tech and environmentally friendly products at the fair and organizes them to attend the fair's supporting activities. It also inspires companies to fully use the fair's public zones to promote their brands.

Against the backdrop of global changes and the pandemic, Fujian will continue to face challenges and help foreign trade companies to use the fair to enhance competitiveness and their capabilities against outside risks, a spokesman said.
