Chu Shijia, vice-president and secretary-general of the China Import and Export Fair, stressed the importance of network security on Thursday on an inspection tour of the network security command center for the ongoing 129th China Import and Export Fair.

It is the third time the fair has moved online,  following two virtual events held in June and October last year.

Chu, who is also Party secretary and director-general of the China Foreign Trade Centre,  watched the real-time data on the event’s official website at the network security command center, and asked for details about the geographical makeup of the registered buyers, the traffic to live streams hosted by exhibitors, the communication between buyers and exhibitors, and other aspects of the event.

“Network security is of paramount importance to the 129th Canton Fair,” Chu said. “On top of monitoring website performance, it is also necessary to predict risks and optimize contingency plans to ensure that security risks are managed in a timely manner.”

Big data analysis is another key aspect of creating a better experience for the buyers and  exhibitors, Chu noted. “We need to keep track of the response time of the buyers and exhibitors using the website, monitor the level of user engagement and check whether sufficient support services are provided.”

On the same day, Chu also inspected the station for handling intellectual property and trade disputes for the fair. IP protection is an important issue for the fair, which involves a wide range of products and buyers from more than 220 countries and regions.
