Imported products from Canada and Australia among the delicacies winning fans across China

The 127th Canton Fair is giving foreign food companies great opportunities to further explore the Chinese market.

Li Yuan, general manager of Litans International, who is attending the fair for the eighth time, said: "We have sent out our samples and received positive feedback. Many clients have shown their interest and we are following this up."

This time, the company has brought Canada's distinctive ice wine, maple syrup, glacier honey and Ontario fruit wines to the fair.

Many exhibitors from overseas said the Chinese food market is a great place to grow, among them is Australia-based Duerrenmatt-folk.

The company's business involves food production and trade. It mainly focuses on products expected to be well-received in China.

Elmer Wei, marketing manager of the company, said Australia is a major producer of eco-friendly food.

At this session of the fair, 34 products in four categories are on display by the company.

The fair is a stage where many foreign food production companies are competing for business opportunities in the Chinese market.

Between January and April, China imported 218 billion yuan ($30.83 billion) worth of food and animal products mainly for consumption. This is up 28.6 percent year-on-year, according to China's official statistics. In a national perspective, food imports have continued to grow at a high speed despite the pandemic.

"After decades of reform and opening-up, China has grown into a huge consumer market for imported food. The young generation of consumers are especially demanding high-quality and specialty imported food," Li said.

"In order to achieve better results at the fair, our company has set up a team responsible for online communication, negotiation and follow-up services. We feel confident and motivated because we have found new business opportunities for cooperation at the fair, which help us further explore the market."
