Since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed in 2013, the Canton Fair has played an important role in promoting its development and has become a vital platform to facilitate trade between China and the countries and regions involved in the BRI.

Chinese companies have made great efforts to seek new buyers and expand markets at the ongoing 127th Canton Fair, which will last through June 24.

Statistics show that BRI-related countries and regions accounted for 45 percent of total attendance of global buyers at each session of the fair. At the current session, that proportion has increased to 50 percent.

The 127th Canton Fair has set up an import exhibition section, which has attracted more than 8,000 companies from countries and regions involved in the initiative.

According to fair organizers, 72 percent of exhibitors and 83 percent of products displayed at the import exhibition section are from the BRI-related countries and regions, covering electronic appliances, building materials, fabric home textile, food and beverage sectors.

Qin Lei, marketing manager of Sinotruk International, a subsidiary of Chinese truck manufacturer Sinotruk Group, said: "The markets in countries and regions involved in the BRI have larger enormous growth potential compared with those in Europe and the United States."
