Since the launch of reform and opening-up policy in 1978, China's foreign trade has entered a new chapter of "decentralization, loosening, and vitality."

As an important platform for foreign trade and cooperation, the Canton Fair has played a key role in boosting reform and opening-up over the past decades.

The 44th Canton Fair was held in Guangzhou in October 1978, at which China Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation attracted the attention of the world for its new system.

Under the leadership of the First Ministry of Machinery Industry and the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the company formed a machinery and equipment trading group to participate in the Canton Fair and directly exported machinery products produced by the First Ministry of Machinery Industry.

The implementation of a management system combining industry and trade can enable the production department to directly understand the purchaser's requirements, fully understand the changes in the international market, and better fulfill the export task.

The new company has focused on both production and exports, which is conducive to the combination of fixed production and sales.

The new system is also conducive to technical exchanges with foreign countries, so that the production department can directly understand how products respond to the international market.

"The combination of industry and trade, production and sales, technology and trade has become the company's operating characteristics," said Jia Qinglin, then general manager of China National Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation.
