The ongoing Canton Fair, which is now online, will stabilize the supply chain of foreign trade and offer more business opportunities for enterprises at home and abroad, said Xu Bing, spokesman of Canton Fair and deputy director-general of China Foreign Trade Center.

Launched in 1957, the biannual Canton Fair has been held for 63 years without interruption. It has boosted economic exchanges between China and foreign countries, said Li Jinqi, deputy director-general and secretary-general of Canton Fair and director-general of China Foreign Trade Center.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the global trade market faces a severe challenge for 2020.

The 2020 Canton Fair is of great significance for suppliers and buyers. “We hope the Canton Fair could help dampen the negative effects of the epidemic and foster opportunities amid the crisis,” Li said.

Over the past few years, each session of the Canton Fair attracted around 25,000 enterprises and 200,000 overseas buyers. In addition to trade at the fair, the buyers secured lots of deals after the event.

“The fair featuring remarkable services and commodities earned wide recognition from foreign buyers,” said Li.

Among regulars of the Canton Fair is John Clarke, a buyer from the United States. He signed up for this year’s fair as soon as he received the news. He also encouraged his partners to join.

“I have traded with Chinese enterprises for decades and the Canton Fair has always been the main channel for me to seek desirable products, agents and factories,” Clarke said.

Along with Clarke, Daniel Spunge from the US browsed the fair’s website with excitement.

The Canton Fair is an excellent trade promotional platform where purchasers can find quality products, make acquaintance with reliable suppliers and expand their business, said Spunge.
