At the opening press conference of the 123rd Canton Fair on April 14th, Mr. Xu Bing, spokesperson of the Canton Fair, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Centre, introduced the Canton Fair’s support for the foreign trade development of poor areas.

Xu said that targeted poverty reduction is one of the three tough battles defined by the 19th CPC Congress. In order to implement the strategies of Party Central Committee and State Council to alleviate poverty and followed by the instructions of the MOFCOM, the 122nd Canton Fair set up the Traditional Chinese Specialties Section for the first time which attracted 179 companies from 21 trading delegations. The exhibiting companies met lots of customers and took export orders in the Fair. More importantly, they know more about the international market demand which will lay a solid foundation for them to explore international market and promote the development of foreign trade and economy of poor areas.

Xu introduced that the 123rd Canton Fair will continue to adopt measures to support the foreign trade development of poor areas. Firstly, set up Traditional Chinese Specialties Section in Phase 3. This section has 200 stands. 181 companies from 21 trading delegations exhibit relevant categories of Phase 3, including clothes, cases & bags and food. Secondly, cancel stand fees for 630 exhibiting companies from 184 poor counties and Quannan County (to which Ministry of Commerce provides assistance). Thirdly, because poor areas lack the experience of foreign trade and exhibition, Canton Fair strengthens the exhibition training and trade instruction for the exhibiting companies. In this way, with better exhibition effect, Canton Fair will play a better role in driving poor area’s foreign trade and local economy, and make its contributions to the poverty-alleviation in a timely manner.
